Iobit Uninstaller 6.0 Beta 1.0

What you need:

Windows 7, 8/8.1 or 10 As we’ve mentioned many times, Iobit Uninstaller is the best of programs with the worst of installers. Developer Iobit is so fond of giving away junk with programs that we dedicated a whole section to it in our Cover Feature on great programs that come with hidden junk (Issue 477). However, this new beta comes with a clean installer.

Iobit has followed in the footsteps of Chrome by releasing a beta in parallel to the main Uninstaller (currently version 5.4, www.snipca.com/21011). This lets you test and offer feedback on new features that may or may not be in the main program’s next big release – a decision based partly on feedback.

The beta can remove more plug-ins, toolbars and advert files than the main program, and assesses the safety of installed plug-ins. It also lets you uninstall Edge extensions (for those of you running the Windows 10 Insider Preview) Click a program’s bin icon to run the uninstaller and Powerful Scan to remove leftover files. Alternatively, tick multiple programs and then click Uninstall. Click ‘Toolbars & Plug-ins’ to see and uninstall plug-ins, extensions and advertising files. In the sub-menu that opens, click Microsoft Edge to manage Edge extensions. and Windows 10 apps completely. The Powerful Scan, which finds and deletes leftover Registry files, is much faster than in the non-beta release. The things we love about the main program are still in place. For example, it integrates with the Control Panel’s built-in ‘Uninstall a program’ tool, adding the much-needed ability to remove leftover program files quickly and completely.

As with the main Iobit Uninstaller, you’re forced to get the beta via download mirror site Majorgeeks. But this time there are no bundled extras. Visit the link above and click the Download button in the forum post. On the Major Geeks page that opens, click the top ‘Download@majorgeeks’ link. Open the installer file (‘iobituninstaller-beta.exe’), then click Run Now to install the program with no junk. The Custom Install link simply lets you choose where to install the program. You can now remove installed Windows 10 apps and their leftover files. Click Windows Apps, then Windows Apps or ‘Thirdparty Apps’ to narrow the list. Click Send Feedback to open a window where you can offer suggestions and screenshots. Click the menu icon then ‘Iobit online’ to discuss the beta online.

Set an open window to stay on top – that’s the sole job of the latest portable system tool from Sordum, and very handy it is too. Let’s say you want to keep an eye on football scores while you’re doing other work. No problem. Simply set that window as ‘topmost’ and it’ll always be visible, no matter how many other windows you open. To get it, click Download at the URL above and save the ZIP file to your desktop, then extract its contents and run the portable program file (‘Topmost.exe’). Right-click the new icon in your system tray, click Windows and select the window you want to keep on top. Alternatively, press Ctrl+alt+space to select your current window.
