WINDOWS 10 Avoid downloading programs or malware by accident
By default, Windows 10’s built-in Edge browser doesn’t ask you for confirmation when you download a file. Consequently, if you accidentally click a download link, the program will start downloading to your PC immediately, regardless of whether it’s safe or not. If you prefer to see a confirmation prompt before downloading a file, there’s a simple registry tweak you can make.
Press the Windows key, type regedit, right-click ‘regedit’, click ‘Run as administrator’, then click Yes to open it. Next, navigate to the following key using the dropdown menus on the left: create it by right-clicking Microsoftedge, moving your cursor to New, clicking Key, then renaming it Download. Next, select Download, right-click the empty section on the right, move your cursor to New, select ‘DWORD (32-bit) Value’, then rename it Enablesaveprompt. Double-click this new value, type 1 in the ‘Value data’ field, then click OK (see screenshot).
Now return to Edge and try downloading something from a website you trust. Unlike earlier, you’ll see three buttons at the bottom - Save (which starts the download), Save As (which lets you change the download destination folder) and Cancel. Chrome extensions within Opera.
To do this, click the Opera menu icon (see screenshot above), move your cursor to Extensions, then click ‘Get extensions’. Next, type download chrome extension in the search bar at the top right, click that extension, then click the green ‘Add to Opera’ button to install it.
Once it’s installed, you can go to the Chrome Web Store ( www.snipca.com/ 21029) in Opera to see all the available extensions. Click to select the one you want, then click the ‘Add to Opera’ button to install it.
