ANDROID SET TO OVERTAKE WINDOWS

-

Android, Google’s operating system for phones and tablets, looks set to overtake Windows as the most popular way of browsing the web.

New figures from web analytics company Statcounter ( www.snipca. com/23858) show that 37.4 per cent of browsing worldwide was performed on an Android device, just below Windows’ 38.6 per cent.

These statistics measure browsing on all types of device. They reveal the staggering rise of Android, which in early 2012 was responsible for just 2.2 per cent of all browsing, much lower than Windows’ 82 per cent. Statcounter’s boss Aodhan Cullen said that it would have been “unthinkable” back then that Android could have challenged Windows.

The figures underline the growing popularity of accessing the internet on mobile devices. They overtook computers in October last year.
