Idiotic icons – it’s time to shape up

-

Oh, I do like Ken Rigsby – he’s a ‘soul mate’ in moaning! He’s right about most desktop icons that you now find on computers (The Final Straw, Issue 496). Developers seem to forget that they too were once babes-in-arms when it came to computing. Or maybe they weren’t. Maybe they were born clutching a clay tablet and stylus, ready to convert everything in sight to squiggles, circles, triangles and squares.

But let’s take heart. As soon as we learn to recognise the current icons, they’ll gleefully change them all to something else – maybe even descriptive text for each icon. Now that would confuse us all over again. Delia Kerr
