PCS are more powerful than ever, so why are they so slow at moving files around? Free program Teracopy solves this problem by letting you move and copy gigabytes of data in seconds rather than hours. Its drag-and-drop program window is very easy to use, and it works a treat – it copied 2.44GB of files into our newly created ‘backups’ folder in well under a minute (see screenshot). Version 3.0 lets you move unlimited files for free – a feature you previously had to pay for. You can also now set it to automatically delete files after copying.

To get it, click Download, and then click ‘Teracopy 3.0’ in the ‘Windows applications’ list. The setup wizard offers two versions: ‘Normal version’ (installable; default) and ‘Portable version’. We went for the 17MB installable version and didn’t encounter any junk.
