Is Microsoft abandoning Windows Phone?

-

I am now on my third Windows Phone, but I feel that it may be my last because I just don’t know where Microsoft is going with it. Apart from the complete lack of phone choice, more and more apps are being removed by large companies. Wasn’t Windows 10 supposed to open the doors for developers to bring forth newer and

better apps? I’m sick of seeing the ‘get the app from your app store’ message next to everything – from taxis to food – but only for Android and IOS.

I switched to Windows Phone because I liked the idea of keeping my phone, PC and tablet all in sync. But that can now be achieved on rival platforms (Android and IOS) and all the reviews show that apps are infinitely better on those than on a Windows device. If Microsoft are giving up, at least they could let me know so I can decide what to do next. Or is the anticipated Surface Phone going to change all that? Unfortunately, at the moment, I doubt it.
