Save web pages to read offline
Google has now made it easier to save web pages to read offline using its browser Chrome. Whenever you come across links to articles of interest while browsing, simply long-press the link, then tap ‘Download link’.
To access this content when you’re offline, open a new tab by tapping the tab-number icon at the top right, then tapping the ‘+’ icon at the top left. On the page that opens, you’ll see a new Downloads section containing articles you’ve saved. Below that, you’ll see your Bookmarks and the ‘Articles for you’ section. This contains articles Google thinks you’ll be interested in based on your browsing habits.
To do that, swipe down to access your Notification Centre, tap ‘All settings’, scroll to the bottom, tap ‘Update & security’, ‘Phone update’ (see screenshot right), then tap ‘Check for updates’.
Your device will begin downloading and installing any available updates – this can take a while, depending on the speed of your internet connection. After that’s finished, tap ‘Restart now’. We’ll cover the new phone features in this update in forthcoming issues of Computeractive.
