Defragment your hard drive at regular intervals
All Windows PCS have a built-in Disk Defragmenter, which defragments your hard drive and optimises your PC’S performance.
To use it, press the Windows key, type defrag, then click Disk Defragmenter (Windows 7) or ‘Defragment and Optimise Drives’ (Windows 8, 10). You’ll now see a list of all the drives on your PC.
To schedule an automatic disk defrag,
click the ‘Configure schedule’ button (Windows 7, 8) or the ‘Change settings’ button (Windows 8, 10). In the window that opens (see screenshot below left), you can set a daily, weekly or monthly defrag (we recommend monthly). Next, click the Choose button, then tick to select the drives you want to tidy up (choose the ones you use regularly). Click OK twice to save your settings.
Your PC will automatically analyse
these drives, then defragment them in the background if needed.
