Remove your video’s original audio track

If you’d like to replace your video’s audio with music or commentary, you first have to remove the original audio track from your footage.

To do so, right-click the relevant video clip, then click Split Audio (see screenshot). You’ll see that the audio has been moved to one of the Audio tracks below your video (usually Audio 1, unless you’ve already added an audio file to your video).

You’ll also notice a dotted line around the video and the extracted audio, meaning the two clips have been grouped together. To delete the audio you first need to ungroup the clips.

To do this, right-click either clip, then select Ungroup Clips (the dotted line will now disappear). To remove the audio track from your video entirely, right-click it, then click Delete Selected Item.
