Stop copying people in email

-

Following all your letters and articles about internet security, I think there is one aspect of this that I’ve never seen covered – the reckless way in which people send emails. I regularly receive emails which have been copied to many people. It only needs one person in the chain to have their antivirus software not updated and everyone is at risk. I’ve recently had to format my hard drive and completely reinstall everything as a result of a virus that came in an email copied to a number of people.

When you are sending a communal email click Create/compose Mail and then under ‘To:’ send it to yourself. Then add all the other addresses by highlighting each name and clicking ‘Bcc:’ (blind carbon copy). This way no one receives anyone else’s email details. This isn’t about being difficult. I’m simply trying to encourage everyone to protect everyone else’s computers (including yours and mine!) from spam and malware. David Clowes
