PUT YOUR PASSWORDS TO THE TEST

To see how secure your passwords really are you should subject them to Lastpass’ Security Challenge.

Click the Lastpass extension, More Options, then Security Challenge (or click the shield icon on the left of the main Lastpass screen). Click Show My Score, then enter your master password (if prompted). In the Improve Your Score section click each ‘+’ icon in turn (see screenshot) to find out which of your passwords are at risk.

Lastpass will suggest that it changes some of these passwords (these will have tickboxes next them). We think you should ignore this because its automatic changer is not reliable (see page 51). Instead, click Launch Site next to each site listed, log into that account, then use Lastpass’ generator to change the password to something more secure. It’s worth doing this Security Challenge every three months or so.

While you’re here, scroll to the bottom of the Security Challenge page and click the ‘Check now’ link to make sure none of your email addresses have been leaked in known security breaches (such as last year’s massive Yahoo hack).
