Q

I have had Godmode on my Windows desktop for some time. I recently manually installed the Windows 10 Creators Update and now notice that my Godmode folder lacks a label. I’ve tried renaming it but it remains blank. It still seems to work fine and when I open it, the chosen name appears at the

We don’t have any explanation other than that Godmode has always been an unofficial, undocumented feature. As such, Microsoft can and will do whatever it wants with it. Of course, it also does whatever it wants with official, documented features — but you won’t find the company defending changes to unofficial tools.

We don’t have access to Microsoft’s source code for Windows 10, so there’s no way for us to know why the Godmode folder is behaving this way. However, the Creators Update also saw the Control Panel entry disappear from the Windows+x (Quick Link) menu. The Godmode trick is a way to view every Control Panel item in one place, so we imagine it’s somehow related to Microsoft’s ongoing relegation of the traditional Control Panel. It wants users clicking on the Start menu’s Settings cog instead.

This is certainly nothing to worry about because, as you say, Godmode continues to operate just as it always has. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if this is a harbinger of things to come — and Godmode is disabled in a future Windows 10 update.
