Why can’t I export my passwords from Chrome?

QIread your password manager feature (Issue 506, page 50) and decided to try Keepass as a means to back up the passwords I have saved in Chrome. My problem is that I can’t find a way to export my passwords out of Chrome. How do you do it? Robert Hiles

AITsounds like you’ve fallen victim to Google’s latest Chrome update (version 59), which has removed the export button. There is a way to bring it back though. Open Chrome, then type chrome://flags into the address bar. Tap Ctrl+f to open the search box, then type enable material design settings and press enter. This will take you to the ‘Enable Material Design settings’ section. Next, click the dropdown menu and select Disabled, then click the Relaunch Now button.

When Chrome re-opens it will do so with its old Settings menu restored. Now, to export your passwords from Chrome, click the three dots (top right), Settings, then ‘Show advanced settings’ (at the bottom of the page). Scroll down to the ‘Passwords and forms’ section, click ‘Manage passwords’, then click the Export button (see screenshot below).

You’ll be prompted to enter your Windows password (the same one you use to log into your PC). You’ll then be able to save your Chrome passwords as a CSV file, which can be imported into Keepass. If you want, you can now go back to chrome://flags and choose Enabled from the ‘Enable Material Design settings’ dropdown menu to restore Chrome’s new look.

Why can’t I open the documents on my Onedrive?

QIfollowed the instructions to add Onedrive to my PC (Issue 505, page 46). All worked OK and now I can see all of my Onedrive folders and files as stated in the magazine. However, when I try to open a Word or Excel file it says ‘Sorry we couldn’t open https://d.docs.live.net/file name.xlsx’ (the last bit differs depending on the file I try to open). What do I need to do to open my files? John Butler Athis

is due to a syncing error between your PC and Onedrive and there are two fixes to try. The first is to reset Onedrive (don’t worry, you won’t lose your files). Press the Windows key+r to open the Run box, type %localappdata%\microsoft\onedrive\ onedrive.exe /reset (you can copy this from our pastebin account www. snipca.com/25074), then press Enter. Onedrive’s icon in the notification area of your taskbar will now disappear, then reappear after a few minutes.

If it hasn’t reappeared after five minutes, open Onedrive by clicking its entry in your Start menu. Wait a few minutes more for Onedrive to sync (its icon in the notification areas will appear as just a white cloud when it’s ready), then try to open one of your documents again.

If that hasn’t made a difference, the next thing to try is to reset Microsoft Office. Press Windows key+r to open the run box, then type control /name Microsoft.credentialmanager (or copy this from our pastebin account www. snipca.com/25075) and press Enter. When the Credential Manager opens, click Windows Credentials, scroll down to the Generic Credentials section, click the down arrow next to Microsoftoffice16_ Data:live:cid (see screenshot above), then click Remove. Now open Word, sign in when prompted and you should be able to open your files.

Will QBASIC work in DOSBOX?

Qcan I presume that it will be possible to run QBASIC on a Windows 10 computer using DOSBOX as described in the last issue (Issue 506, page 65)? How might I go about this? Reg Boor Ayes,

you should be able to open QBASIC in DOSBOX. For those who don’t know, QBASIC is a free programming tool that dates back to the early days of DOS and Windows. These days it’s used to teach programming, though enthusiasts still use it to create simple tools and games. We would need much more space than we have here to explain how to set up DOSBOX so it can open QBASIC, but thankfully someone has done the task for us. Go to www.snipca.com/25071 for detailed instructions – be sure to click through parts 1-4 (at the top right) to see the entire guide.
