Defeated by Creators Update
I thought you’d like to hear my experience of installing the Windows 10 Creators Update. First came the choice of privacy settings (I chose the default), then a couple of days later the download via Windows Update and a choice of time to install. Great!
Then the problems started. At the scheduled time for installation I was told it couldn’t be installed because my device wasn’t available. It was. It was plugged in, powered on, logged on, but idle. Given the choice of waiting another hour or
restart now, I chose the latter. Three hours later I was informed that installation had been successfully completed. Brilliant!
Only trouble was that I couldn’t access the internet. I restarted, but still no access. Tried an Ethernet cable, but no luck. Device Manager shows that multiple adapters have problems. I have no joy with the Wireless Adapter, but at least manage to get Ethernet working by reinstalling the driver, so now I have internet access.
I try Windows Update (on day three of the saga). It tells me my machine is up to date. So I try Windows’ troubleshooter again, this time for ‘Hardware and Devices’. Several minutes later it reports the same problems that I saw in Device Manager, but doesn’t fix any of them. So much for a successful installation!
I cross my fingers and revert to the Anniversary Edition, which seems to be running fine. Never mind, the ‘Fall’ Update will be here soon. I can’t wait.
