This could be the moment the UK’S broadband speeds stop being an embarrassment. But the benefits won’t be felt overnight. By the time the £200m fund is spent, in 2021, will other countries have pulled further away? The other question is whether this money will increase the urban-rural digital divide. We’d like to see assurances that the trials won’t take place only in towns and cities.
