BBC will use viewer data for adverts
In Issue 512’s Letters I.M. Williams asks why the BBC requests so much personal data when you sign up to the iplayer. I suspect that the BBC’S bosses are already preparing for life beyond the TV Licence because they realise it’s becoming increasingly hard to justify, in this age of on-demand TV streaming. It feels inevitable to me that eventually the BBC will have to fund itself like all other media organisations do - through advertising. That’s when all the customer data will prove useful, and very lucrative. Martin Cartwell
