Make your built-in Windows Firewall even more secure and versatile, using this newly redesigned tool. Windows Firewall Control (WFC) lets you switch between four ‘filtering modes’ from your system tray, making it much easier to control your firewall’s behaviour (including the ability to lock down completely if you don’t trust a connection). Version 5.0 displays the type of connection your firewall is using (public or private), then lets you lock its current state with one click. You can also check IP addresses and URLS, set up keyboard shortcuts, and create customised rules that block certain programs and types of connection.

WFC needs installing, but it’s junk-free and takes up a mere 600KB of space. If Windows 10 Smartscreen tries to block the installer, click ‘More info’, then ‘Run anyway’ to override it.
