Computer Active (UK)

Can we have a list of local computer clubs?

-

Following previous readers (Keith Taylor in Issue 515 and William Mitchell in Issue 516), I too have been involved as a volunteer in computer use and problems for a number of years at the Whitstable Umbrella Community Centre ( www.umbrellacentre.co.uk) and I recommend this activity to anybody who has the skills and the time. I don’t know how our activities at the centre compare to other similar services, but we offer both a variety of training courses and a regular computer club in the form of a ‘drop-in’ service for anyone who has a problem with their computer, software, tablet or phone.

I’m sure there will be quite a number of similar services around the country, but not all the people who need to use them know where they are and how to get in contact. Would it be possible for Computeractive to publish a request for information from its readers on these volunteer-led (and often free) facilities? Many thanks for a magazine that provides a good read and guidance in an easily absorbed manner. David Fisher

CA says It’s a great idea, David. We’re big fans of volunteers who share their computer knowledge with their local community. They do a vital job making modern technology accessible to everyone. If you volunteer, please send us details of what you do and where. We’d be happy to celebrate your valuable work.
