Can I customise Libreoffice menus?

-

Q

In Issue 516 you answered Leslie Simmons’ question about the location of the Envelope option in Libreoffice Writer 5.4. This very same thing had been driving me crazy too, so thanks for that! However, I wonder why this option was moved, and if there’s any way to put it back where it originally was, higher up in the menu? I use the option several times each day, so having to scroll through to the bottom of the menu on my small screen is a pain. If it is possible, could you explain in simple language how to do it? Yes, this is possible. First, open the Tools menu and choose Customise. Next, in the Customise box that appears, click to select the Menus tab. Then, to the right of Menu, open the dropdown menu and choose Insert.

Now shift your attention to the Entries pane, in the Menu Content section below. Scroll through to the bottom of this to find the Envelope option. Click to select it and then, using the up arrows on the right, click to raise its position in the menu (see screenshot). If you make a mistake, click the down arrow to lower it. When you’re happy, click OK.

Finally, you say that this is a feature you use regularly — so it’s probably worth your while learning a keyboard shortcut. First, open the Insert menu by pressing Alt+i (that’s a capital ‘i’, not the number 1), and then just tap V to summon the Envelope command.
