Make your phone’s battery last the entire day

-

There are a few simple steps you can take to ensure your phone’s battery makes it through the day.

The higher the brightness level of your screen, the quicker your battery will drain, so you should consider switching off your device’s auto-brightness setting.

To do this in Android, open the Settings app, tap Display, then switch off the ‘Automatic brightness’/‘adaptive brightness’ slider (see screenshot above right). Next, open your notification panel and reduce the brightness level using the relevant slider. In IOS devices, you control brightness levels in the Control Centre (swipe up from the bottom of your screen to see this).

Many devices have – by default – an animation or high-resolution image as a screensaver, which can eat into your battery’s resources. To prolong battery life, use a static image, preferably a simple black-and-white one. In Android, go to Display, tap Wallpaper (see screenshot above), then select an image of your choice. In IOS, open Settings, General, Wallpaper, then select from the options. In either operating system, you’ll then see a message asking if you want to use this for your home screen, your lock screen or for both. Select both.

Other battery-hogging features include Bluetooth, NFC and Location services. Switch these off when you’re not using them. You can do this in your

notification panel (in Android) or Control Centre (in IOS) or by opening the Settings app (in both).

Most current phones have one or two ‘Battery saver’ modes that you can enable by tapping Battery in the notification panel or in Settings.
