Teamviewer is a desktop tool that allows you to control one PC from another over a home network or the internet. The latest version (13) adds some very useful features, including IOS screen sharing, which lets you view your ipad or

iphone screen on a remote computer – useful if you want to get someone to help you with a problem. Teamviewer also improved file sharing between PCS. In this Workshop, we’ll show you how make the most of these two new features. STEP 1 Go to www.snipca.com/26458. Click the green Download Teamviewer button 1 and save the program to your PC. Once it’s downloaded, launch the file to install Teamviewer on your computer. In the setup screen, select ‘Basic installation’ 2 under ‘How do you want to proceed, and ‘Personal/non-commercial use’ 3 under the ‘How do you want to use Teamviewer?’ options, then click ‘Accept – finish’ 4 to complete the installation. To control your computer remotely from another PC and to share files between them, install Teamviewer on your other computer. STEP 2 In the main Teamviewer window on both PCS you’ll see a nine-digit number 1 next to Your ID and a four-digit password 2 below that. To control, for example, a desktop PC from a laptop, type the desktop PC’S ID number into the box under Partner ID 3 on the laptop, and click the Connect button 4 . Enter the desktop PC’S four-digit password when prompted, then click Log On 5 . Your desktop PC’S screen will open on your laptop, letting you run programs and open files as if you were sitting in front of it.

STEP 3 To use the file-sharing tools, click ‘Files & Extras’ 1 in the toolbar at the top of your remote PC screen, then click ‘Open file transfer’ 2 to open a dual-pane file browser 3 . To send a file from the home PC to the remote one, navigate to the file in the left-hand pane, click it (or Ctrl+click to select multiple files), then navigate to the directory you want to send the file to in the right-hand pane and click the arrow next to Send 4 . You can set a transfer going, then continue to browse for and queue up more file transfers. The ‘Job queue’ pane 5 shows you file transfers that are complete or in progress.

STEP 4 To use the ipad/iphone screen-sharing features you’ll also need to install the latest version of the Teamviewer Quicksupport app ( www. snipca.com/26460) on your IOS device. Once it’s installed, open the IOS Settings app, Control Centre 1 , then Customise Controls. Under More Controls, tap the green plus button 2 next to Screen Recording to add this to your Control Centre tools. Now close the Settings app and open the Teamviewer Quicksupport app.

STEP 5 You should see a ninedigit ID number under Your ID 1 . If not, tap the Share button 2 at the top right, which should refresh your ID number. If you need to send your ID number to someone else – for example, another Teamviewer user to give them access to your ipad screen – you can tap ‘Send your ID’ 3 then select Mail to email the ID number to that person. To connect using your own PC, start Teamviewer on your computer and enter the nine-digit number on your ipad screen into the Partner ID box under Control Remote Computer, then click Connect. STEP 6 You’ll now see a notification on your ipad or iphone screen – tap Allow. Now swipe up from the bottom of your IOS device’s screen to bring up the Control Panel. Long-press the Screen Recording button 1 and a list of options will appear. Make sure the Teamviewer option 2 is ticked (tap it, if not), then tap Start Broadcast 3 . After a short countdown, the recording icon will turn red to show that the app is now casting your screen. Your ipad or iphone screen will now be displayed in the Teamviewer window on your PC.

STEP 7 You can’t control your IOS device from your PC – it’s essentially just mirroring your iphone or ipad screen. However, you can change the orientation (landscape or portrait) to match that of your device by clicking the rotate icons 1 below the main screen. You can also send messages between devices. Type a message in the box 2 at the bottom of the Chat pane, then press Enter and it will appear in the Quicksupport app. To stop sharing your screen, open the Control Centre again and tap the red Screen Recording button (it will turn white). Then, open the Quicksupport app, tap the X in the top-left corner and select Close. ●
