-

What you need: Any web browser; iphone or ipad Time required: 25 minutes

Thereare many services that let you transfer files from your PC to your iphone or ipad. The majority of these (including Apple’s own itunes) require you to connect both devices using a USB cable. Airtransfer is a

brilliant free app that lets you transfer files from your PC to your IOS device wirelessly, as long as both devices are on the same Wi-fi network. It even lets you download all your device’s photos and videos to your PC.

STEP 1

First, ensure that your iphone, ipad and PC are connected to the same Wi-fi network. Next, install Airtransfer ( www.snipca.com/27447) on your iphone or ipad. When you open the app, you’ll see several file sections on the left 1 . Any files you transfer from your PC will appear in the relevant sections (see Step 2). Tap the Wi-fi icon 2 to see the name of your Wi-fi network 3 and the IP address that you need to open in your PC’S web browser 4 to begin the transfer.

STEP 2

Open your PC’S web browser (we’re using Chrome), type the IP address (including the ‘http://’ at the beginning, even though it’s not shown in our screenshot below 1 ), then press Enter. Minimise the program window, open the PC folder containing the files you want to send 2 , then drag and drop the files into the Drop Files Here section 3 . After uploading, the files will appear in the main section 4 . At the same time, they’ll appear in the appropriate file section in the Airtransfer app (for example, Images, Music, Movies, and so on).

STEP 3

Photos and documents are transferred instantly. An album of music tracks took about 20 seconds to transfer and four HD videos about a minute. In your PC’S browser, you’ll see a list of your files with three column headings - Name, Type and Action. Move your cursor to the download icon 1 in the Action tab to see a fullscreen preview of the file you transferred. You can delete files you don’t want by ticking to select them 2 , then clicking the Delete button 3 . These files will also be deleted from the app.

STEP 4

Transferred files stay in the app, taking up its storage space, so it’s a good idea to move them to your device, then delete them from the app. Doing so will free up space for future transfers. To move your files to your device, select the relevant file section on the left of the app, tap Select at the top, Select All at the bottom (this then turns into Deselect All 1 ), the Share icon 2 , then ‘Save to Files’ 3 (for documents, music and videos) or ‘Save to album’ 4 (for photos). You can also save the files to a specific app 5 .

STEP 5

Before deleting files from Airtransfer, open the save location or app to confirm your files have been saved. To delete your files from the Airtransfer app, tap All at the top left of the app’s main screen, tap Select at the top, Select All (which turns into Deselect All 1 ), Delete 2 , then tap Delete 3 to confirm. We’ll now show you how to instantly access and download all the files from the Camera Roll on your iphone or ipad, so return to your PC’S browser.

STEP 6

Click the Camera Roll tab 1 . You’ll see a pop-up message prompting you to provide access to your device. Open the app on your device, then tap OK on the pop-up message to provide access. In your PC’S browser, you’ll now see all the photos and videos on your iphone or ipad in categories 2 . You can only download 10 items at a time using the free version of Airtransfer (you’ll see a pop-up warning 3 if you select more). Select the first 10 items 4 , then click the Download button 5 .

STEP 7

Repeat Step 6 to select and download 10 more items at a time. To download all your Camera Roll files in one go, you need to buy the Pro version of the app (for £1.99). To do this, open the app, tap the cog icon 1 , ‘Unlock All Features - £1.99’, Purchase, then type your App Store password to confirm payment. If you encounter any problems using the app, tap the Help section 2 to read tutorials and FAQS. ●
