From the Editor
Which of the three Rs interested you most at school? You won’t be surprised to learn mine was writing. I like to think that my journey to becoming editor of Computeractive began with my early stories about alien robots invading my home town of Canterbury.
Forty years on, and I find myself editing a Cover Feature on the four Rs that help you make Windows run like new. They’ve all come to my aid at different times. I refresh my computer at least once a week, relishing the opportunity to expose (and then remove) the programs that make my PC boot slowly. Restoring has rescued me many times, particularly when an update has given my computer the collywobbles (a technical term).
Resetting is more drastic, something I’ve performed only a handful of times, fearing the cure might prove worse than the disease. As for the ultimate step of reinstalling, I’ve done that just twice, once on XP, the other on 8.1. Is your experience similar? Please let me know.
