Don’t be fooled by new Google log-in
Google has redesigned its log-in page, prompting fears that some people might think it’s a phishing attack.
Scammers often try to trick web users by mimicking the official log-in page of websites. They aim to steal the usernames and passwords that people type.
If you have a Google account, look at the two images on the right. The old log-in page on the left has been replaced by a new page reflecting Google’s Material Design style, which uses more grid-based layouts and depth effects, such as lighting and shadows. Google says this lets them make “intuitive and beautiful products”.
On the new log-in page the words have been centred, and there’s a blue outline around the ‘Email or phone’ box.
Logging in works in the same way: type your username, click Next, then type the password on the next page that opens.
Google said it was planning to add the new log-in page to all accounts by the end of June. Read more on the company’s blog: www.snipca.com/28162.
