Listen to radio stations using VLC

- Adrian Terry

My friend noticed me switching to different radio station websites and he asked me why I didn’t use Tunein Radio ( www.tunein. com), a free online service that lets you listen to radio stations. He even showed me how to add the useful Tunein Radio plug-in to VLC media player ( www. videolan.org), so that I could access all the radio stations within VLC.

To do this, go to www.snipca. com/28234, click the Download dropdown menu on the right, then click the ‘master.zip’ file to download it. Open this downloaded file, click the Extract tab in File Explorer, click ‘Extract all’, then Extract. Now open this extracted folder to see its files. Next, open another File Explorer window and go to the following PC location: C:\program Files\ Videolan\vlc\lua\sd. Finally, drag and drop the ‘tunein.lua’ file to this VLC folder (see screenshot), then click Continue to confirm.

Now open ‘VLC media player’ on your PC, click the View tab at the top, then click Playlist. On the left, you’ll see an Internet section, with Tunein Radio below. The first time you click this, you’ll see a list of station genres loading. Now click any genre, then double-click the radio station that you want to listen to.
