What’s the best software to share wedding photos?

-

QMy daughter is getting married next year and I’m looking for a phone app that will let our family and friends upload photographs taken on the big day. I like the simplicity and features of Wedpics. Is there an alternative you can recommend? Douglas Sykes

AWedpics ( https://wedpics.com) is a hugely popular app for sharing wedding photos, but it’s not quite as free as it likes to make out. Although it won’t cost anything for you or your guests to upload and browse photos, downloading them isn’t free. To download highresolution photos suitable for printing, you’ll need to pay 99p per photo or £14.99 for unlimited downloads (£23.99 to get unlimited download access for all your wedding guests). If you don’t want to download the photos (or are happy to pay to do so), Wedpics would be a good choice.

A free alternative is to set up a group on a photo-sharing service such as Flickr ( www.flickr.com). It doesn’t have quite the same ‘wedding’ feel as a specialist wedding app, but it gives you more control. You can set up your Flickr group as public or private and, once created, invite your guests to join via email. They will then be able to add their own photos and join in the group discussion. You can even create a memorable web address for the group, making it easier to access.

There are a couple of downsides to using Flickr. Any guests who don’t have an account will need to create one before they can join your group. And while any photos taken using the free Flickr app (Android www.snipca.com/28350; IOS www.snipca.com/28349) will be immediately uploaded to their accounts, it’s not possible to add photos to your group using the mobile app – this needs to be done via the Flickr website.
