Use a remote control for all your media players
Whatever media player you use on your PC, with Unified Remote you should be able to control it from your phone or tablet - perfect if you tend to stream media around your home.
To do this, download the Unified Remote server software to your computer from www.unifiedremote.
com. Next, install Unified Remote on your IOS ( www.snipca.com/28831) or Android ( www.snipca.
com/28832) device. When you first open the app, it will search for the server running on your computer. If the server isn’t displayed, you may need to set up a Windows Firewall rule on your PC to let the app access the server (Unified Remote has a section on its website to help: www. snipca.com/28833). On your app tap the server to connect, then the Remotes menu and select Media. A simple remote control will now appear (see screenshot), allowing you to control playback and volume levels on whatever media player is currently active on your PC - perfect when streaming films or music using VLC, for example. Unified Remote also lets you control your computer’s mouse and keyboard, as well as browse and open files remotely.
Enhance almost anything with IFTTT
If This Then That (IFTTT) is a service that lets you automate tasks between different software, and works with your phone and smart devices (such as Amazon Alexa).
To have new Dropbox files synced with Onedrive, go to https://ifttt.com and type onedrive into the search box at the top. In the results, select ‘Sync new files added to Dropbox to Onedrive’ (you’ll be prompted to create an IFTTT account if you don’t already have one). In the next screen, click Turn On. IFTTT will then tell you what permissions it needs - if you’re happy to give them, click OK, then follow the on-screen instructions. This is just one task (or, as IFTTT calls it, applet) of many. Simply search for the program you want to automate to see what’s available.
