Why don’t I have Windows update problems?

-

Colin Hornby was the latest in a long list of people reporting problems with Microsoft’s updates (Letters, Issue 569). What am I doing wrong? I feel left out. These things do not happen to me. Since Windows 10 came on the scene, I have downloaded every update and never had a single glitch.

Recently, I joined Microsoft’s Insider Program, so I am now using a version of Windows 10 which is not yet available to everyone. It runs smoothly on an old Dell 660 PC, to which I have added a second hard drive to store photos. My peripherals are all just as old.

One thing I do regularly is update drivers, using the free version of Iobit Driverbooster ( www. snipca.com/32664). Is this the reason I don’t suffer the problems that irk Mr Hornby? I also run Ccleaner weekly. I’m no computer whizz-kid either. I’m 77 and never even used a computer until I was 50.

Much younger friends now come to me for help with errant laptops. I find that many problems are resolved by updating drivers and clearing out junk files. Mike Cleverley

Colin Hornby complains about Windows 10, telling us about all the problems he has had. Well, my computer is older than I can remember, and had Windows 7 installed when I bought it. I waited for a while after the advent of Windows 8, and then installed it with no problems.

I was so excited about Windows 10 that I upgraded straight away. It cut my start-up time from five minutes to about 30 seconds. Since then I have installed every update to Windows 10 without problems.

Has Colin never thought that the problems he’s encountered might be caused by his computer, and not Windows? Ian Plackett
