Microsoft’s new Edge is a ‘revelation’

-

On 15 January the new version of Edge arrived. I gave up on the old version ages ago and switched to Chrome, although I still used it from time to time – for example, to read PDFS. So, is the new version any better?

Downloading and installing it were quite straightforward. I then went about setting it up to my liking. What a revelation! Gone is the muddled mess of settings from the old version, replaced by a neat and logical new approach. Customising was a breeze.

I tried many sites I use regularly, some with video, some with audio, and some I previously had difficulty with. First impressions are good. It appears fast and clean and I’ve had no problems so far. The default search engine is Bing, but you can change to your preferred one if you want. I found Bing produced better results than

Google due to Google’s tendency to put ads up front.

I’m looking forward to your review, though I’m not sure why you’re unhappy with it being auto-installed (News, Issue 571, page 6). Just because it’s there doesn’t mean you have to use it, though I would encourage your readers to give it a try. I will be using Edge in future for sure. By the way I do not work for Microsoft! CA SAYS Like Maurice, we’ve been impressed by the revamped Edge. It seems faster than the previous version, and is unquestionably easier to use. Its wider range of extensions should help it gain some ground on Google’s Chrome, though it has a long way to go. Turn to page 60 for our first look at the new, improved Edge.
