3 Send documents to your Amazon Kindle

-

But what if you want to read something other than a web page, such as an emailed document? At this point, switch from your browser to email. Every Kindle has its own unique email address, and documents sent to it will be added to that device’s onboard library when it syncs with Amazon’s servers.

To find out what your Kindle’s email address is, visit www.snipca.com/35053, log in using your Amazon account details, then click Devices in the top menu. As well as your Kindle devices and apps, this list will include any Amazon Echo devices you may have purchased, so, if it’s too long to fit on one page, use the search box at the top right to find anything with the word ‘Kindle’ in its name to shorten it.

When you’ve identified the device you want to send your documents to, click the ‘...’ to the left of its name, then make a note of the address beside ‘E-mail’ in the box that appears.

To prevent spammers filling your Kindle with ads and other junk, it will only accept content sent from an authorised email address. Once you’ve noted down the Kindle’s own address, therefore, click Preferences on the menu above the list of devices and scroll down to Personal Document Settings. Click this heading and, within the section that appears, scroll to Approved Personal Document E-mail List. Click ‘Add a new approved e-mail address’, followed by ‘Add address’.

You can now send documents directly to your Kindle using email, as long as you use one of the supported formats. These are Microsoft Word (.doc and .docx – see screenshot below left), Rich Text Format (.rtf), PDF, plain text, Kindle books in .azw and .mobi format, images in JPEG, PNG or bitmap format, and HTML web pages.
