You don’t have to be skiing down a mountain or jumping out of an aeroplane to make use of an action camera. They’re useful for capturing memories on any expedition, even if it’s only walking the dog or enjoying a day at the beach.

It records 1440p footage (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) at frame rates up to 50 frames per second (fps). Slow-motion clips can be recorded in 1080p at 120fps; timelapse and hyperlapse clips in 1440p at 30fps; and HDR footage in 1440p at 24fps. It can also use its built-in image stabilisation technology, complete with horizonlevelling, to create ultra-smooth shots.

The resulting footage is impressive in daylight and, even in low light, doesn’t look too grainy. Colours are rich and natural, and details look sharp. Image stabilisation also works well, with walking and cycling footage looking so smooth it could have been recorded using a mechanical stabiliser.
