Lenovo Yoga Slimm 7

Reader recommends… £849 from Amazon www.w.snipca.com/37348

I’d been umming and d ahhing about buying a new laptop aptop for a year or so. I didn’t fancy cy Computeractive’s previous ‘Buy It’ recommendation (Honor’s Magicbook 14), so kept waiting for it to be replaced with a new favourite. This appeared in Issue 601 (page 30) with the Yoga Slim 7.

I’ve had several Lenovo laptops in the past, and have been impressed by the build quality and durability. I got the same impression with the Yoga Slim 7 when I opened it. I’ve only had it for a few weeks, but I’ve used it enough to know it’s fast, and – unlike many previous laptops – doesn’t get uncomfortably hot where the wrists rest.

the green ‘Download’ heading).

Next, I bought a 100GB USB stick from Amazon (for £9.99), which I converted to FAT32 using the free version of Paragon Partition Manager 12 ( www.snipca. com/37517). I’ve now got a music server, and it cost me under a tenner!

Use Sumatra to view PDFS

Having read the ‘Stop making these PDF mistakes’ feature in Issue 600

Lockdown means I’ve not used it outside, so I’ve not been able to test the 15-hour battery, but I agree with your claim that it’s one of the best sounding laptops ever. I listen to music all day working at home, and the audio is stunning.

(pages 60-61), I’d like to say that while I completely agree that Adobe Reader is cumbersome, Pdf-reading software is still better than using web browsers.

I use Sumatra PDF ( www.snipca. com/37468), which I think was recommended in Computeractive several moons ago. The functionality is limited, but viewing a PDF is almost instantaneous – much faster than Adobe or a web browser. Lots of ebook formats are supported as well.

I sort of agree with you that you shouldn’t use a program to convert PDFS, but on occasions I still use Pdfcreator ( www.pdfforge.org, pictured below). You’ve previously ‘named and shamed’ it as a ‘Junk Offender’, but if you manage to skip the junk (like PDF Architect), then this is actually quite a useful bit of software as you can save documents not only as a PDF but as JPEG and TIFF.
