Most browsers now use the same Chromium code as Chrome, but the oddly named Floorp is based on Firefox. This means you don’t need to worry about it sharing your data with Google – “we have no affiliation with any advertising companies” – and can enjoy features you won’t find elsewhere. These include a fully customisable design, which lets you apply different themes, move toolbars to the bottom of the window and hide features you don’t need. Floorp offers built-in protection against hidden trackers, malicious scripts and fingerprinting, and blocks dangerous downloads by default. The latest version lets you run extensions, which you can install from the Mozilla Add-ons store, in the browser’s sidebar. Enable this option in the Browser Manager Sidebar settings (see screenshot above). Note that Floorp’s developer is Japanese, so the browser may occasionally open pages in that language.

If you use more than one monitor, or a connected laptop to give you a dual display, you’ll know that the options for working with multiple monitors in Windows are frustratingly basic. Displayfusion offers a huge array of features for multi-display setups so you can make the most of all your available screen space.

The free version of the program lets you set different desktop wallpapers on each monitor using images from your own collection or online sources, or apply backgrounds with solid colours or gradients. You can make windows transparent, add extra buttons to their title bars, drag them between monitors and ‘snap’ them to the edges of either screen.

Displayfusion Pro builds on these features with additional customisation options, shortcut keys for performing quick commands and the ability to create profiles for each monitor. It also has dozens of features you don’t get in the free program, which more than justify its one-off cost.

For example, you can mirror a whole screen or just a selected area, add a taskbar to every desktop – with different buttons and pinned items on each one (see screenshot below) – replace the Start menus using thirdparty tools such as Open-shell, show separate lock-screen images and screensavers on each monitor, and control your display remotely from your phone or tablet.
