This new Microsoft app provides a ‘talking camera’ for blind and visually impaired people. Point your phone’s camera at an object or document, or take a photo, and Seeing AI will describe it to you or read aloud its content. The app can also scan barcodes, recognise currency and capture people’s faces to recognise in future.

Be My Eyes connects blind and low-vision individuals with sighted volunteers around the world via live video calls, to provide free help with recognising objects, using appliances and other everyday tasks. It recently added a feature called Be My AI, which describes the contents of images.

Live Transcribe for Android uses automatic speech recognition to transcribe conversations in real time. It can be set to vibrate when someone says your name or resumes speaking after a pause, and alerts you to sounds such as alarms and knocking. The IOS app is from a different developer, but it works in the same way.
