Drive more carefully using Waze’s new tools

-

Google Maps may get more attention, but Google’s other free navigation app, Waze (www.snipca. com/49773), is now the preferred sat-nav system for millions of drivers in the UK. The app was recently updated with some great features to help you get around more carefully and efficiently.

Particularly useful is the new speed-limit tool, which could help you avoid getting a speeding fine and points on your licence. It uses Waze’s constantly updated information about speed limits around the world to provide voice and visual alerts when a speed limit is about to decrease along your route. This gives you more time to slow down and safely adjust to the changing road conditions.

Waze already notifies you of hazards such as potholes, railway crossings and bad weather, and has now expanded this data to include sharp curves, speed bumps (see screenshot above) and toll booths, using details added to its maps by other Waze users.

Another handy new option – though initially only in the Android app – helps you navigate tricky roundabouts by telling you which lane to choose and where to exit, so you don’t miss your turn.

All these features are rolling out to Waze users in the UK now, though others – such as the ability to reserve parking spaces and discover when emergency vehicles are on your route – are currently limited to the US and Canada.
