Campsite licence approved despite neighbour’s fears

»» A NEIGHBOUR says plans by a campsite owner to site a bar next to her pizza business would disrupt the lives of people living in two nearby properties.

However, the owner of Tregavone Pizza Box said it was not her intention to upset anyone and she would do all she could to stop any noise.

Kelly Dennis applied for a premises licence to build a timber shelter, incorporating a bar, alongside the pizza business she runs on the family campsite at Tregavone Farm in St Merryn, near Padstow.

The matter came before a Cornwall Council licensing meeting after neighbour Amanda Bertuchi opposed the application due to noise concerns.

Mrs Dennis said the bar would be more than 200 metres away from neighbouring houses.

If the application were approved the bar area would be double-glazed and soundproofed, and signage would encourage patrons to be quiet when leaving.

However, Ms Bertuchi said she was not happy with the plan.

“I have concerns about it,” she told the committee. “I’m already disturbed at my house, and the neighbouring property, by noise at the campsite. The activities have intensified massively over the last few years.

“The bar has patio doors and a decking area; how will the noise reduction work with that?”

The meeting heard a singlelane track, trees and hedges lay between Ms Bertuchi’s property and the proposed Pizza Box site.

After deliberating, the committee agreed to grant the premises licence subject to conditions, including that noise levels should be monitored and action taken if these were considered to be unreasonable.

There should be double-glazed windows and sound-proofing, the windows should be closed after 9pm and a decking area not used after 10pm.
