Arson suspected after fire at pottery

AN arson investigation has been launched after a property on the north coast caught fire in what the police say were suspicious circumstances.

Emergency services were called to deal with a building ablaze at the Tintagel Pottery in Bossiney at around 5.20pm on Wednesday, April 24.

Police and three fire crews from Delabole, Wadebridge and Bude rushed to the pottery, arriving tofind an outbuilding measuring 5m by 10m on fire, with flames coming through the roof.

Firefighters donned breathing apparatus and deployed one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

The fire was suspicious, police later said.

In a statement the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “Three appliances attended this incident from Delabole, Wadebridge and Bude following reports that the fire was coming through the roof.

“On arrival crews found the fire to be in an outbuilding measuring approximately 5m by 10m, used for storage.

“Crews used two the breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

“Arson is suspected and a fire investigation officer is in attendance. The police have also been informed.”

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police were notified at around 5.50pm on Wednesday, April 24 to reports of a fire at Tintagel Pottery.

“Officers attended and are conducting enquiries as to the cause of the fire, which is currently believed to be suspicious.

“No injuries were recorded.”
