SET A TARGET: “I find it difficult to motivate myself to exercise without having a specific goal. Setting an end target is a huge morale boost, so the NYC Marathon is ideal.”

BREAK IT DOWN: “A swimming race only lasts for 24 seconds, so pushing through the pain of 26.2 miles is something I’m working on. My tactic to keep focus? Break the race up into smaller bits and give myself something to think about for each 10K.”

REWARD YOURSELF: “I’ve joined a gym near work, so I can train on my way home. That means I can totally switch off after and treat myself to a glass of wine.”
