IT’S NOT YOU Hyping: not OK

Over the years, the dating game has created a whole new lexicon with which to describe the many complex machinations of modern love. Ghosting, benching, Gatsbying… and now there’s a new one: hyping. Borrowed from the comedy world, a hype man/woman is responsible for priming an audience before the main act. It’s a thankless gig with few rewards, which makes it a bit like those relationships where you spend months building up a partner’s confidence, only for them to ditch you once they’re riding high. And that is completely un-funny. Unless you’re the next woman, in which case, you’ll be laughing.
