THE NEXT BIG STEP

Personal trainer and New Balance Ambassador, Pennie Varvarides, is used to breaking a sweat in the gym. But running a marathon? That’s a whole new story…

-

Despite helping others smash their fitness goals on a daily basis, a previous knee injury meant Pennie Varvarides had never considered partaking in a marathon – until now. After her local running group, GoodGym, inspired her to sign up for a more long-term challenge, she secured a place in the New York Marathon this November.“The plan is to work with an osteopath and strengthen my weak muscles. I’m going to train smart and be sensible, I’m not expecting to break any world records but if I can finish in one piece I’ll be ecstatic.” For Pennie, it’s all about coming out the other side feeling stronger and faster than ever before. “The furthest race I’ve ever done is a 10K, the marathon will be a real endurance test and I’m excited to see what I can do.”
