FIRST LOVE

If these two get back together, we’re automatically invited to the wedding, right?

I met Adam in a jacuzzi in the summer of 2015. We were at a mutual friend’s birthday party and everyone piled in together. He was charismatic, with such a good energy. We swapped details, and I was travelling down to London for a meeting the following Wednesday, so we made a plan to have dinner. At first, I didn’t even think it was a date – I’d suggested my friend came along and Adam responded,“Why would your friend come?” That’s when the penny dropped. We had some food, went dancing in a club, and then back to his. I ended up staying at his house in London for a whole week. Within a fortnight, we were exclusive. I’m such a homebird, so when I started to feel like I’d rather be with Adam than at my own place, that’s when I realised I loved him. We first said it on a rowing boat in Stratford, sipping champagne in the sun.

It was the most intense relationship I’d ever had. We were long-distance, but I spent half of every week at his house. I’d never been like that with anyone else, so I was gutted when it began to fall apart. We’d bicker, ignore each other for a few days, then make up, in a constant cycle. Eventually, one day, after an argument, neither of us reached out – and it was clear it was over. After the break-up, I moved to Ibiza for a while to give myself some space and deleted him from social media.

I was so excited about the dinner, just to see whether Adam had changed. We had a big hug and he filled me in on everything he’s been up to. Neither of us were bitter, and there was definitely some flirting. We had some lovely cocktails, the date flowed naturally, and it was like nothing had ever happened. I’m so proud of who he’s become.
