BOXSET TO BOX OFFICE
Your favourite TV shows are getting a silver-screen makeover
DOWNTON ABBEY
WHAT WE KNOW: Set in 1927, a year after the TV series ended, the movie version will make us swell with national pride as the household plays host to King George V and Queen Mary.
FAMOUS FACES: Die-hard Downton fans will be pleased to know the entire cast is set to appear in at least one scene together.
MOST LIKELY TO HAPPEN: Polishing silver, fretting over place settings and Dame Maggie Smith (left) bringing that aristocratic sass, as per.
WHEN’S IT COMING? 13th September 2019.
BREAKING BAD
WHAT WE KNOW: Written by the show’s creator, Vince Gilligan, the spin-off (code-named Greenbrier) explores what happened next for Walter White’s sidekick, Jesse (Aaron Paul, right).
FAMOUS FACES: Paul has confirmed that he’d “love to be a part of it”. The jury’s still out on slippery lawyer Saul Goodman (played by Bob Odenkirk), though.
MOST LIKELY TO HAPPEN: Jesse will find Walter’s stolen millions, move to Alaska and live in peace.
WHEN’S IT COMING? TBC, but 2021 at the earliest.
THE WALKING DEAD: RICK GRIMES
WHAT WE KNOW: We last saw Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln, left) miraculously survive that bridge explosion and get whisked away to safety in season nine. Though the TV series has continued without him, the forthcoming film trilogy focuses on what Grimes did next.
FAMOUS FACES: No other cast are confirmed, so this is full-on Andrew Lincoln throughout. We’re not complaining.
MOST LIKELY TO HAPPEN: Zombie attacks. A lot of them.
WHEN’S IT COMING? TBC 2020.
LUTHER
WHAT WE KNOW: That Luther’s showrunner, Neil Cross, is adapting the crime series into a film – and that our lives will be infinitely better when we see DCI John Luther (Idris Elba, left) on a 34ft-wide screen.
FAMOUS FACES: She’s risen from the dead before, so maybe Alice Morgan (left, played by Ruth Wilson) could make an appearance?
MOST LIKELY TO HAPPEN: Luther will inevitably be led astray by his dubious moral compass, all while wearing a seasonally appropriate coat.
WHEN’S IT COMING? Late 2020/early 2021.
THE MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK
WHAT WE KNOW: This prequel to The Sopranos is set during the 1967 Newark riots. Series creator David Chase is in charge, so expect good things.
FAMOUS FACES: The young Tony Soprano is played by Michael Gandolfini (right), son of the late James Gandolfini (left, centre). Our hearts!
MOST LIKELY TO HAPPEN: Expect conflict between the gangs of Newark against a historic backdrop of police brutality.
WHEN’S IT COMING? September 2020.
