Judge Michelle Visage reminisces about life on RuPaul’s Drag Race as the show finally arrives in Britain

- RuPaul’s Drag Race UK starts on 3rd October on BBC Three

What do you love most about Brits? I’m obsessed with the UK and have been since I was 13. I know the difference between accents. I fancy the Northern accent a lot. I love the British sense of humour. And I love Simon Cowell! You shared a house with Katie Hopkins on Celebrity Big Brother in 2015. How was that? She had the opportunity to become the nation’s sweetheart and decided to make a deal with the devil for a paycheque. That made me sad for her and for her family. When she was given a secret task to rub Perez Hilton’s feet… I saw a lot of memes of me looking at her not buying a word she was saying – because I didn’t. I’m thinking: “This bitch isn’t going to touch anybody’s feet, let alone Perez’s.” You have two daughters – what life advice do you give them? To always be true to who they are and never compromise their morals or principles because that won’t make them happy. What element of the drag community should we most embrace? Sisterhood and loving each other, no matter what you’ve been through. Even if the queens don’t get along [on the show] there’s a sense of love and respect for each other and their personal journeys. Talk us through the emotional roller-coaster of Asia O’Hara’s Drag Race season 10 (dead) butterfly costume. When I saw the shape of it [above, left]

I looked at Ross [Mathews] and Carson [Kressley, fellow judges] and said, “Guys, there are butterflies in there and those butterflies are going to be dead.” It was really warm in the venue and, because I’m an animal person, I kept saying, “I’m telling you, butterflies need cool air.” We weren’t told about it. It was awful. Who is your dream Drag Race celebrity panellist? Madonna. Everything for me is Madonna. What’s RuPaul’s greatest moment? The first-ever MAC Viva Glam campaign was a huge accomplishment, being a drag queen and kicking off something that’s raised so much money for HIV/AIDS. [Winning] the Emmys, getting a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. And Drag Race, of course. It brings joy to the heart, a tear to the eye, families together and helps parents understand their queer child and their struggle. It’s a beautiful show. Do you ever eat Ru’s orange Tic Tacs? No! We believe they’ve been there for 10 years and are the same ones from Season 2. We don’t touch them. We offer them to the queens. Some take them – but the wise ones don’t. How’s your head? I haven’t had any complaints. How about you?
