James Blunt on the eroticism of baked beans, Alan Partridge and why he’s always a little bit sticky

-

What’s your party trick?

I do a mean gorilla impression. A little bit of sound effects and everything. It’s my trademark now.

What’s your worst habit?

I have a Coca-Cola habit. If I could, I’d have Domino’s pizza and Coca-Cola in bed for breakfast every day. Junk food is the best food.

Have you got a name for your willy?

No. I’ve never really seen it as a separate entity that needed an additional name. We are one. We move as one. We think as one. We are one. But, if I had to, maybe I’d call it “the cock”.

What’s the weirdest thing anyone has ever thrown at you during a gig?

I was playing a gig on my birthday once when my best mate Billy threw an enormous pair of underwear at me. He’d even written “you’re pants” on them. He’s very supportive.

Would you rather be constantly itchy or constantly sticky?

Definitely sticky. Being itchy is just painful, isn’t it? And I think I’m sticky anyway. I live in Ibiza, so you’re constantly a little bit sticky, and I’ve just got used to it. I’m very hygienic, don’t get me wrong.

What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever bought?

I was in Thailand once on a tuk-tuk and I decided to buy two of them. My sister has one in Sussex that she drives her kids to school in, and I have the other one in Ibiza with me. People always stop me and ask for lifts because it still says “taxi” on the top, and then they realise it’s me and say,

“Oh God, man, what happened?”

In a film about your life, which actor would you want to play you and why?

My mother would like it to be Tom Cruise, but I know that’s wishful thinking. It would more likely be Alan Partridge.

What was the first concert you went to?

It was my own, at a pub in King’s Cross called The Water Rats.

Would you rather bathe in spaghetti hoops or baked beans?

Baked beans. I actually used to have a dream about swimming through baked beans – doggy paddle. There was something quite erotic about it. It would definitely have been Heinz. The supermarket brands don’t really do it for me. James Blunt’s new album, Once Upon A Mind, is out now
