It can be difficult to ask for a pay rise

– especially as women, in certain industries and during a crisis as deep as this one. If you know you’re seriously underpaid, there’s still a conversation to be had, but some industries are really struggling right now so your employer may not be able to afford to give you what you want. Investigate what else your company offers – or could offer – such as time off or training. Could you get a bit of mentoring or learn new skills? And could you earn the extra money you want another way? ◆
