In a Grade Ii-listed barn situated in the picturesque village of Seal in Kent, the small, independent Splendid Ted, sources vintage pieces that offer a nostalgic peek into the past, alongside quirky, modern buys, all lovingly hand-picked to ensure a character-filled home. Founder Linda Dallison tells us more…

What inspired you to open your shop?

After 12 years living in Asia, I returned to the UK and was faced with setting up a new home with both my contemporary Asian pieces and traditional English designs. To my surprise, I made them work together, and it wasn’t long before family and friends started asking where they could find similar items – and so Splendid Ted (named after our beloved dog!) was born.

What do you sell? The stock is led by client demand and antiques trends, but we have an evolving mix of old and new pieces, all with a story to tell – a current favourite with our customers is our selection of antique trunks. With new items arriving almost daily, we aim to offer vintage furniture, lighting, homewares and interior and garden accessories for all tastes.

Who visits your shop? As well as our lovely locals, we get all sorts of people visiting. We’ve assisted stylists in sourcing props for photo shoots, aided many a couple with their vintage wedding requirements and have been able to assist with styling several cafés and pubs, which wanted to create a nostalgic feel. We pride ourselves on the fact that many of our clients are repeat customers, and take great joy in finding that special one-off piece to stand out in a home.

What have you got planned for the rest of the year?

As well as running the shop, we can often be found at events around the country – after a successful debut at the Country Homes & Interiors Summer show this year, we’re delighted to be returning to its Christmas show in November.
