A COUNTRY DRESSING ROOM

-

Combining comfort and s* tyle is key for any room in a country home, but, as part of your boudoir, dressing rooms deserve some extra softness. Lucinda Waterhouse, Founder of Oka, advises how to hit the right note.

• Rustic furniture is very much at home in this environment, so combine old, vintage pieces with new ones for a relaxed feel. Remember, not everything has to match. Stone-washed linen is also a great choice for cushions and upholstery, bringing a casual, ‘lived-in’ look to the space.

• Always position your dressing table and mirror in front of (or at least as near) the window to allow more natural light to enter the room, which, in turn, makes the space feel bigger. Practical storage is a must – our wooden suit rack and foldable luggage racks are incredibly useful, space-saving and stylish.

• Don’t forget to pay attention to the smaller details: place a bunch of faux flowers in a glass vase on top of your chest of drawers or dressing table to add a year-round pop of colour.

• Your dressing room should be an extension of your bedroom, so do co-ordinate cushions and other soft furnishings to create a coherent scheme. As long as you stick to the same colour palette in both rooms, you can afford to be brave and mix different patterns – just be careful to stay on the right side of busy.
