THE bird about town (Letters, January 18) was not quite a unique experience. The same thing happened to me, a fellow lawyer, in New York. The woodcock would have been part of the great migration down the Jersey shore, blown off course into Manhattan. I was, at least, able to tell the bemused onlookers what it was—an owl was the favourite theory before my arrival! Steve Beharrell, by email
