THE bird about town (Let­ters, Jan­uary 18) was not quite a unique ex­pe­ri­ence. The same thing hap­pened to me, a fel­low lawyer, in New York. The wood­cock would have been part of the great mi­gra­tion down the Jersey shore, blown off course into Man­hat­tan. I was, at least, able to tell the be­mused on­look­ers what it was—an owl was the favourite the­ory be­fore my ar­rival! Steve Be­har­rell, by email
