Cut flow­ers

Roses live much longer if the ends of the stalks are well bruised be­fore putting them into wa­ter; pop­pies if the ends are ei­ther dipped in boil­ing wa­ter or burnt in the flame of a can­dle. Tulips will live longer if a lit­tle ta­ble salt is added to the wa­ter.
