Check out the cathedral chicks

-

ITHOROUGHLY enjoyed your article ‘The sky’s their limit’ (March 1)—such sleek killing machines. I live in a northern town where we are lucky enough to have our own pair of peregrines that returns each year to raise a brood in the church spire of our cathedral. Admittedly, there’s a dedicated team that placed a nesting box there for them and maintains it so it’s shipshape for the next hatchlings.

The birds even have their own Twitter account (@Wfldperegrines), which is enhanced by a webcam that catches all the activity. The pair is already back in residence and it looks as if we can look forward to another spring and summer of these two and their chicks in the skies above Wakefield, with shoppers on the precinct having to dodge the birders that set up tripods, all hoping to capture the perfect photo of our urban birds of prey—pigeons beware!
